  • Discussed review sheets for the upcoming grammar test.
  • Test date is Tuesday, February 25, 2020.
  • Read the short story "The Thirteenth Fire." Story and questions on handout.
  • Students fill out Short Story Organizer for "The Thirteenth Fire."
  • Students are to read the poem "Cold Missouri Waters" on page 96-97 Between the Lines 12​ and answer questions. Included on the handout for "The Thirteenth Fire."

Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
  • Checked homework assignment for the poem "February."
  • Discussed the questions.
  • Checked homework questions for "Two Fishermen."
  • Discussed questions.
  • Asked students if they had any questions about the grammar review.

Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
  • Students are to read "Two Fishermen" by Morley Callaghan on page 300 of Between the Lines 12.
  • Students were given questions to work on.
  • Grammar Review sheet also given out for students to prepare themselves for upcoming quiz.

Friday, February 14, 2020.
  • Checked questions for "The Chaser."
  • Discussed answers to the questions.
  • As a class, filled in the Short Story Organizer.
  • Handed out a poem named "February" for students to work on.

Thursday, February 13, 2020.
  • Students were given questions for "The Chaser."
  • Discussed first questions as a class.
  • Students read the story "The Chaser."
  • Students were given time to complete questions and short story organizer.
  • Questions due tomorrow.
  • Some students also received the grammar review sheet.

Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
  • Finished discussing questions for "The Fun They Had."
  • Students filled out Short Story Organizer on their own and then we discussed as a class.
  • Handed back first writing assignments about students' goals and methods for achieving them.
  • Reminded students to look over assignments, and to use my notes and the proofreading symbols (these were handed out on the first day) to understand any errors in their writing.
  • Showed students the website again. Students were encouraged to consult with this page to catch up on any missed work. Also, students can check their progress by clicking on the Student Reports link on the left.

Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
  • Students had a meeting with student services about next year's course selections.
  • Discussed using apostrophes for contractions and possessives.
  • Checked homework questions for "The Fun They Had."
  • Discussed questions as a class.

Monday, February 10, 2020.
  • Grammar: Making Irregular Nouns Plural
  • Fill out the Short Story Organizer "Supertoys Last All Summer Long" (on the back of question sheet)
  • Students read "The Fun They Had" and worked on questions (to be completed for tomorrow)

Friday, February 7, 2020.
  • First writing assignment is due. Students with extensions need to turn theirs in on Monday.
  • Students will continue reading the short story "Supertoys Last All Summer Long" on page 9.
  • Students will work on questions for the story that were distributed yesterday.
  • When students are finished, they are to work on the grammar sheet on Irregular Plurals.
  • If time permits, questions for the short story will be taken up and the Short Story Organizer will be filled out as a class.

Thursday, February 6, 2020.

Wednesday, Ferbruary 5, 2020.
  • Students will continue to work on their first writing assignment in Room 201.
  • Students are encouraged to (a) proofread and spellcheck their work carefully, and (b) check their assignment format to the Assignment Guidelines handed out on the first day of class.
  • The writing assignment is due Friday.

Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
  • Students worked in Room 201 on their first writing assignment ("My Goals and Methods to Achieve Them" handout yesterday).
  • Discussed how to set up Microsoft Word for more effective proofreading: Setting up Word for English
  • Discussed "Assignment Guidelines" (handout given yesterday).
  • Students will have this class and the next two to work on and finish this assignment. The assignment is due on Friday, February 7, 2020.

Monday, February 3, 2020.

Tomorrow, the class will meet in Room 201 to set up students on computers and set up Microsoft Word for ease of use in this class.
