Developmental Learning Class
The purpose of this non-credit program is to support students to reach their potential through the development of skills in functional literacy and numeracy, life skills, recreational and community activities. We want our students to be a part of the school community through the Breakfast Club and the recycling program. Students also interact with the local community as a way to promote positive self-esteem and peer relations.
Our staff includes our Developmental Learning Teacher, Kate Hagen, along with a caring team of Educational Assistants and Teaching Assistants in the classroom.

Resource Room
The Resource Room at SDSS is open to all students who require additional support for their courses. The room is open all day, including lunch for students to complete assignments, study for tests and access laptops. The room is also used for students who require accommodations based on their IEP (Individual Education Plan) such as extra time or a quiet place to write. We also have Learning Strategies courses (GLE) to teach students about organization, study skills, math facts and literacy support.
Our staff includes the Learning Resource Teacher, Christine Flarity and the Learning Strategies Teacher, Dan Weigand.

Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Students on an IEP have been identified through a psychological assessment, classroom testing or medical assessments as needing support in order to access the curriculum. The IEP's are updated each semester to ensure that it is an up-to-date picture of the student's strengths, needs and accommodations so they are supported in the classroom. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's IEP, please contact Christine Flarity at [email protected]
